Johanna Konta was Team GB’s star as she won both her matches to catapult Team GB to a 3-1 play-off victory over Kazakhstan, to secure a place in next year’s World Group II.
Following her heroics from GB’s last set of fixtures, she replicated her excellent play to win both her matches, defeating Zarina Diyas, and then the Kazakh no. 1 Yulia Putintseva, after coming from a set down in both matches.
Following on from winning the Fed Cup Heart Award for her courageous battle with fatigue and general exhaustion, from February’s fixtures in Bath in which she won all 4 of her singles matches, the British number 1 led from the front to ensure that the Great Britain team would be back amongst the World Group elite for the first time in 26 years.
She will be hoping this excellent run of form will be replicated in the upcoming WTA tournaments, before the 2nd Grand Slam of the year – the French Open.
