ellesse’s own Johanna Konta led from the front for Great Britain, winning all four of her matches in their first Fed Cup matches on home soil for 26 years.

Konta was in imperious form for the full week; starting her week with a comprehensive 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 victory over Dalila Jakupovic. In one of the games of the week, Britain’s number one came through a battle with Maria Sakkari, 4-6 6-2 6-3 before her marathon match with Hungary’s Bondar on Friday night – a 2:46 match that was evenly poised before Jo took the match 6-2 6-7 (1-7) 7-6 (7-4) well after 23:00.
